A stolen car was left in a mangled wreckage after trying to escape from police, traffic officers have said. 

The vehicle was spotted in Blackpool and then reportedly rammed a police vehicle multiple times before attempting to escape.

It was chased at speed and the driver then lost control at a roundabout.

The driver had no injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of committing multiple offences.

Elsewhere overnight, a Mazda was spotted on the hard shoulder of junction 29 of the M6 with an indicator flashing, headlights on full beam, engine running and the driver asleep.

After the driver provided a roadside breath test, he was found to be twice the drink drive limit and was arrested, according to police.

In Blackburn a vehicle was spotted by officers speeding through the Galligreaves estate.

The car was stopped and it was found that the driver did not have insurance and the vehicle was subsequently seized, police said.
