A fleet of tankers is helping to keep water flowing to homes and bottled water stations have been set up following a burst pipe.

United Utilities said a burst pipe has been spotted and reported on Old Farmside, Ewood, yesterday, Saturday.

The problem caused no water or low pressure in the BB1, BB2 and BB3 areas on what was the hottest weekend of the year with temperatures reaching over 30 degrees.

Some homes have been without water for more than 24 hours and this morning United Utilities said work was continuing to restore the service to homes.

Water tankers are pumping supplies directly into the water network to help boost the pressure in the area.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Bottled water stations have been set up at the following locations, and these have been open from 8am - Witton Park, BB2 2TS and Pleasington Playing fields (above), BB2 5LE.

Following concerns that residents are having to travel into Blackburn to get water, a third water bottle station has opened in Market Square, Darwen. This was announced after 4pm today (Sunday August 14).

The work is being conducted in the rear end of a property on Old Farmside (below), which is just off Jack Walker Way.

United Utilities said the water main was 5m underground, 'as deep as a two-storey house which makes the excavation difficult'.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Mark Garth, incident manager for United Utilities, said: “We are very sorry for the inconvenience this is causing, and we do understand how difficult it is for customers particularly during such hot weather.

“Our engineering teams have been working throughout the night to dig down and repair the pipe and this will continue throughout the course of today.

“We have opened up bottled water stations at two locations for customers who are affected by the incident. We are also delivering bottled water direct to vulnerable customers who are registered with us for priority services.

"We thank everyone for their patience in the meantime and we will restore supplies as quickly as we can.”

United Utilities said it was providing regular text and email updates to customers in the affected areas.

Blackburn Rovers are set to take on West Brom at 3pm. The club said in a statement: "The club is aware of some water supply issues in the local area, but at present the stadium is unaffected."
