A local gym is inviting athletes from across the county to their Strongman event.

Better Bodies Gym said they had already had 24 people enter their ‘Blackburn’s Strongest Man’ show which is due to take place on September 3.

The gym, based off Bennington Street in Audley, is expecting to fill up their full quota of 32 contestants in the coming week.

The event will feature events such as the ‘farmers walk into yoke’. The yoke walk is a strongman exercise where athletes carry a heavily loaded frame balanced across the back of their shoulders over a set distance as quickly as possible

Athletes will lift a log increasing by 10kg increments, take part in a tyre drag, a tyre flip and load 3 kegs ranging from 60kg to 90kg in weight.

Deadlifts will range from 270kg to 300kg weights with athletes attempting as many reps as possible in 75 seconds.

There is free entry for spectators with capacity set for 70 people on the day.

Strongman legend and world record holder Mark Felix will help to referee the event on the day.

A Better Bodies Gym spokesperson said: “A huge thank you to all the local businesses who have supported this event.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone on the day.”
