A teenage boy who fell from his mountain bike landed 40ft down a ravine.

Emergency services – including an air ambulance and the Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team, were called to assist with the job in Heywood over the weekend.

It transpired that the biker had take a fall into a ravine which was believed to be 40ft down an embankment towards the river Roch.

A spokesman for the Mountain Rescue Team said: “The team were mobilised, and members made their way to the RV in Heywood - some from our base to respond in team vehicles, other directly from home/work, with a couple also departing from a First Aid cover the team were doing at Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom.

“The North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA) once again were called too, and were taking off as team members arrived on scene.

“The team remained mobile until confirmed the casualty had indeed been taken in the air ambulance and met the NWAS crew as they returned to their vehicle at the road.

“As always we wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.”
