A police dog who was harmed after a man threw a garden chair at him has reassured the public that he is feeling better and will be taking a few days off.

Viper assisted officers whilst they were out searching for suspects following a report of burglaries and suspicious activities during the early hours of the morning (August 8).

A male who was detained, threw a garden chair at Viper which cut the dog’s nose. The male later received treatment to his leg for the bite marks.

Viper, who has been a very good boy helping the officers, shared a thankfully positive update on Facebook. Rossendale Police wrote on behalf of Viper. He said:“My name is Viper and Inspector Valentine told me that after my game of hide and seek lots of people in Rossendale had been asking if I was ok. I just wanted to tell you all that I'm fine and my nose feels much better.

“My dad said I worked really hard finding that man from Salford but to be honest I just thought we were playing a game. It was fun but apparently the man doesn't want to play anymore.

“I'm having a few days off now which is good because it's going to be hot and there's a tennis ball I need to destroy. I'll leave you all in the safe hands of my other Land Shark friends who'll be keeping you all safe until I come back.”

An 18-year-old male from Salford has been charged with two attempt burglaries and for causing harm to a protected animal (Viper).

He was also wanted on two no bail warrants so has appeared before Blackburn Magistrates this morning to determine if he will be remanded to prison or not.
