A MAN subjected his partner to a brutal assault which resulted in her blacking out.

Blackburn magistrates heard on a subsequent occasion Daniel Corkin trashed his partner's house and also sent her threatening messages.

Corkin, 29, of Farmhouse Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm, , criminal damage and sending offensive messages involving his ex-partner. He also pleaded guilty to damaging a car belonging to Daniel Park and sending him threatening messages. He was committed in custody to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced on all matters after the magistrates ruled their powers of punishment were insufficient.

Jane Rapin, prosecuting, said the attack on his partner had taken place in December. He verbally abused her and then strangled her. He then dragged her out of bed and began hitting her until she blacked out.

The criminal damage offence was committed in February. In a rampage he damaged kitchen cupboards, the back door, baby gate, bedroom wardrobe and garden furniture.

"When police arrived she was very upset and the property had been trashed," said Miss Rapin.

The car owner discovered that his windscreen had been smashed with a large stone and damage had been caused to side panels, a wing mirror and the rear of the vehicle.

Later that evening he heard Corkin shouting for him to come outside because he was going to kill him.

"Later that day he received a message from the defendant telling him not to write about him on Facebook and making further threats," said Miss Rapin.

Zabair Afzal, defending, said at the time of the offences his client was using cocaine, steroids and alcohol and it was making him psychotic.

"He realises he is in a perilous position," said Mr Afzal. "He is asking for help to rehabilitate himself and at the moment he is not taking any drugs or drinking to excess."
