A Tony Parkes legends team will be taking to the pitch to raise money for the coach who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and the son of Tommy Spurr who has been diagnosed with a rare type of cancer.

Kevin Gallagher, Colin Hendry, Tommy Spur and more will be taking to the pitch next month to raise money for Tony’s care, as well as raising money for Tommy’s three-year-old son, Rio, after a tumour was found on his kidney in April, confirming that the disease had spread to his lungs.

The match is also raising money for St Catherine’s Hospice and Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

The Tony Parkes Legends will play against soap stars from Emmerdale and Hollyoaks such as David Kennedy and James Hooton.

Organiser Tony Cartwright said he is elated that so many people have come forward to support the charities.

He said: “We’ve got the big names coming, Danny Graham, Craig Conway, Tommy Spurr, Steve Royal from Britain’s Got Talent, Tom Lister from Emmerdale and more.

“There's a lot of big names, it's great so many people are coming together for Tony and Tommy and our other charities.

“I can’t wait to see those stands full and funds being raised to help these people.”

Rovers player Tommy Spurr said: “We are hoping, like any parent would, that all his treatment here will go swimmingly but we need to prepare in case it doesn’t.

“For Tony to include us, it’s amazing and it means the world to us.

As well as the match, Tony is selling a Rovers shirt with Tony Parkes 10 on the back, as well as having his signature imposed onto the shirt.
