A FARMER is proposing to create a 'glamping' hub on his land on the moors above Darwen.

Phillip Quinn believes his plan would boost the local economy and diversify his business at Ramwells Farm, Edge Lane, Turton.

He has asked Blackburn with Darwen Council for planning permission to build 12 timber-clad glamping units with associated decking, hot tubs, and a communal area with a kitchen, on the land.

If approved, it is to be called ‘Ramwells Retreat’.

A supporting statement submitted with the application says: "Two phases of six units with associated works are intended.

"All units are to be manufactured off site and to be provided by Modular Group, specifically the Bothy, Pembroke and Peaky Pod models.

"The plot is situated just off Blackburn Road in Whittlestone Head and lies approximately 3.5 miles north of Turton.

"The proposed glamping site will provide subtle and discreet countryside accommodation for tourists visiting this area’s attractions on short breaks and weekend stays.

"The proposed design includes units which are small single storey cabins (under four metres tall).

"The area and surroundings are rich in tourist attractions, with many walking opportunities, village shops, pubs and other attractions/activities.

"The proposals will create a significant economic benefit to the surrounding area and local businesses.

"The plot for the proposed glamping site will occupy approx. 14,670 square metres of the applicant’s land.

"The vast majority of the site will be left as open green space with common areas for guests to relax.

"The units will offer contemporary accommodation to visitors which is within a suitable travel distance from surrounding cities and further afield across the country, thus being suitable for weekend trips and short breaks.

"The concept of luxury glamping is now gaining popularity throughout the UK, with standards and guests’ expectations on the rise.

"It is intended by the site operator that this site will be amongst the best available in the area.

"The proposed site will also add to the client’s farms diversification of Ramwells farm.

"The adjacent farmland is used to produce sheep and cattle and currently is used as grazing for horses.

"The tents would be rented out on a per-nightly basis. Patrons would likely be couples, families or friends split into multiple units. Party groups will not be permitted by the operator.

"The site will be marketed as a peaceful and relaxing retreat.

"The proposed glamping site will provide a new and exciting accommodation option to the area."
