A town centre community pub that closed suddenly in July has been listed for sale, and its days as a pub could be over for good.

The Black Horse, in Redearth Road, Darwen, closed last month and has since been listed for sale for £225,000.

The town centre pub was one of the hosts of Darwen Live back in June before its sudden closure, and according to the estate agents marketing the venue its time as a pub could be over.

The historic public house is recognised as the location of the earliest Catholic mission in Darwen.

The listing, with Fleurets, says the site may “lend itself for change of use back into three terraced houses, or into a HMO” subject to planning.

HMO (Houses of multiple occupany) ambitions could be short lived however, as Blackburn with Darwen Council is clamping down on this property type, often used as a cash cow by landlords, providing poor living standards for occupants.

Inside the pub, there is an open lounge and bar area with fixed seating.

Leading off that is a games room, trade kitchen, large storeroom and toilets.

In the basement is the cooled cellar and there are two beer gardens to the rear.

Upstairs is a private living space with four bedrooms, a kitchen, a dining area and a bathroom.

You can view the listing on the Fleurets website.
