THE funeral took place earlier this week for a generous and kind gentleman, who has died.

James Francis Devlin died away, suddenly but peacefully, in a private care home, aged 79 years

He was the dearly beloved husband of Monica, much loved dad of Julie, Chris, Marie and Caroline, dear father in law of Craig, Adelle and Jon, loving grandad of Sadie, Katie, Chris, Daniel, Tom, Ellie, Ewan, James, Isabel, Ruby, Hannah and Charlie, loving great grandad of Amy, also a much loved brother, brother in law and uncle.

Jim spent his working life as a civil engineering contractor working alongside his son Chris at J & C Devlin Ltd.

He was a great worker – practical, down to earth and had an abundance of common sense and a determination to always do his best.

Being brought up on the family farm in Clonmany, County Donegal, Jim always retained a great love of the outdoors and kept hens and sheep.

He also loved gardening.

At his happiest socialising over a pint, Jim thoroughly enjoyed being in company.

After retiring, Jim and Monica were able to indulge their shared loved of travelling and had wonderful holidays to China, New Zealand and Canada as well as cruises and trips all around Europe.

The Oswaldtwistle man was always happy with his lot and was naturally funny and he could sum you up in a second.

With that twinkle never far from his eye, he would mischievously teach the grandchildren naughty rhymes.

Jim will be remembered for being a devoted family man and a generous and kind gentleman with a great joie de vivre.

The requiem mass took place at St Alban's RC Church, Blackburn followed by cremation at Accrington Crematorium at 3pm on August 10.

Donations are being received in memory of Jim on behalf of Alzheimer’s Society.
