It was one of Blackburn’s most well-known pubs, in no small part due to the large OBJ sign which adorned the front of it.

Taken in 1962, this photo shows the Lord Nelson, Salford, just a stone’s throw from Dutton’s Brewery. The OBJ sign was an advert for Old Ben ale and stood for Oh be joyful, the slogan used to advertised the beer.

Penny Street can be seen heading off to the left.

The Lord Nelson was demolished as part of the town centre redevelopment in the mid-Sixties.
