A BOROUGH is to get £85,000 to spruce up its parks and green spaces.

The cash for Hyndburn Council comes in a new round of 85 government grants to local authorities in England

The borough now has ten parks with 'Green Flags' recognising the quality of its parks and green spaces and recently started work on a new country park on Bury Meadows in Oswaldtwistle.

Hyndburn MP Sara Britcliffe has welcomed the £85,000 grant from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities in partnership with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

The money comes from a £9million Levelling Up Parks Fund.

Miss Britcliffe said: “Investment in our parks and green spaces is levelling up. It means we have better quality facilities on our doorstep for everyone to enjoy.

“I welcome this new funding as it is something I have been campaigning for in Westminster, and I look forward to working with the council on how it will be spent.

“This money, separate from and further to the Levelling Up Fund bid, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Community Ownership Fund and Levelling Up for Culture, shows this government’s commitment to places like Hyndburn and Haslingden."

Hyndburn Council will now consider how best to spend the funding.
