Another day was drawing to a close as far as the businesses in Blackburn town centre were concerned when this photo was taken in 1980.
The tulips were in bloom in the flower beds on King William Street, their bright colours contrasting with the white-tiled facade of the town’s shopping centre.
This photo was taken with the old town hall at the photographer’s back looking towards Debenham’s. for many readers, the key feature which will bring back memories is the large clock tower, a main feature of the shopping centre which had replaced the traditional market clock when the new centre was built.
It too has subsequently been replaced with the arrival of the Mall.
