A number of offence report forms have been issued to fishermen along the River Ribble.

On Friday night, police from the Ribble Valley rural team went out with the Environment Agency to patrol along the county's river.

Officers spoke with a number of anglers who were suspected to be fishing without an appropriate licence, in line with the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act.

This means, if there were found to be fishing without a licence they would be in breach of the Act and guilty of the offence.

A spokesperson for the police said: "On Friday evening the Ribble Valley rural team went out on patrol with the Environment Agency.

"Areas along the River Ribble were patrolled and a number of anglers were spoken to.

"The Environment Agency issued several offence report forms to anglers that were suspected to be fishing without the appropriate licence, in line with section 27 Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act (SAFFA).

"We will continue to conduct similar patrols and work with partner agencies in the future."
