A man has died following a shooting.

Emergency services were called to an address in Belmont Road, Astley Bridge, yesterday afternoon.

Officers said they found the man dead following a 'firearms discharge', with police believing there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A weapon was found at the scene which was recovered by the police. 

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “We were called out to an address on Belmont Road, Bolton at 1.17 pm on July 28, where a 70-year-old man was found dead due to firearm discharge.

“The weapon was safely recovered and there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

“The case has been sent to the coroner.”

Residents in the area said they saw a large emergency presence in the street with police remaining at the scene until the evening.

One person said: "The police were there when we went passed just before 3pm, several cars and an ambulance. There was still a policeman looking in a red car and one parked up when we came back at about 8.10pm."

Another said: "I saw loads of police there at 3pm."

The ambulance service has also been approached for a comment.
