A hugely popular East Lancashire bakery's owners are "over the moon" after being awarded a four-star food hygiene rating, just months after being handed a one star score.

Finch Bakery, based in Queen Street, Great Harwood, is celebrating after receiving their most recent food hygiene rating.

The Instagram famous bakery twins, Rachel and Lauren Finch, said at their initial rating there were errors in their paperwork "due to the large-scale growth of the business" and they were not aware this would mean they would need new paperwork, which meant they could only receive a one rating, meaning major improvement was necessary.

Now, inspectors have revisited and awarded the shop a four rating meaning their hygiene standards are good - but the sisters said they were only unable to get the full five-stars due to their last inspection.

Rachel said: “We are over the moon to get the four-star hygiene rating.

“Last time when we got the one star it was because of an issue with our paperwork.

“We want to thank all of our amazing customers for supporting us over the past few months.

“It is great to be back where we feel we should be and hopefully we will be a five-star rated bakery again soon.”

They added that, because of their previous one-star rating, they were unable to go back up to five stars but the report noted there were ‘no compliance issues’.

After receiving the one-star rating, the pair said they were "embarrassed" but took responsibility for the result.

Rachel said the team implemented the changes as soon as the hygiene inspector left following their visit in April, and in a new inspection the squeaky-clean bakery is now rated four stars.

The outcome of the most recent visit has yet to be published on the Food Standards Agency website.
