A generous charity worker and volunteer from Blackburn who gave more than 20 years to tackling homelessness has sadly died.

Linda Sharratt, former chief executive at Nightsafe, dedicated her life to helping young homeless people in the area.

Linda joined the charity 28 years ago and retired from her role in 2017, but continued to volunteer for the charity, putting her needs aside to support vulnerable people.

Her kind-heartedness did not go unnoticed. She remained in contact with the team and even took part in their Sleep In for Nightsafe challenge in 2020 where she slept in her car overnight for charity.

One woman on Facebook shared the special impact Linda had on her: "Linda gave me my love of youth work when I was 18 and she trained me up for my first job at Nightsafe.

"She was a wonderful woman and her legacy will live on in all of us who worked with her to achieve her goals of supporting our most vulnerable of young people."

The Nightsafe charity has launched a Just Giving page, Remembering Linda Sharratt, so people can pay their respects and continue with the amazing work Linda helped the charity create.

Praising Linda’s generosity and sharing the impact her work had in the community, the charity wrote: “It is with immense sadness that we learn of the passing of Linda Sharratt, a true Nightsafe hero.

"Linda joined Nightsafe in 1994 and held the post of Chief Executive for a number of years.

“Her extensive knowledge and expertise in youth housing was the driving force behind helping the organisation develop robust and secure accommodation and laid the foundations for the high quality service we have today.”

People have paid their respects online, reminiscing in special memories of Linda.

One person wrote: “So sorry to hear that Linda has passed away.

"What a lovely lady she was. Remember her from Brownhill United Reformed Church. Never forget her kindness.God Bless her. RIP."

Another person, who knew Linda personally, added: “So sad to hear this, Linda was so great when I was a CSV in 1998/9. We stayed in touch via sleep outs and social media, true ledge! Rip Linda.”
