A prop from the iconic television series Phoenix Nights, created by and starring Peter Kay, went under the hammer in Lancashire and sold for thousands.

The Phoenix Club’s original 'VIP entrance sign', which featured in the show, was sold at Warren and Wignall auctioneers in Leyland.

It had reserve price of £1,500 and auctioneers estimated that it could have been sold for between £3,000 to £4,000.

It sold for £3,000 at the auction which took place on Wednesday (20 July).

The sign in question was located at the front of the show’s fictional Phoenix Club.

The props from the original series were sold off following the non-payment of a storage container.

The container also included the iconic Sammy the Snake bouncy castle, which an auctioneer sold on eBay for between £5,000 and £7,000 last year.

The Phoenix Club sign was brought to auction by Matt Taylor, one of the dealers on Dickinson's Real Deal.

Speaking to a national news outlet he said: “I buy things that are unique, curious and rare and try to put them back with someone who will love and appreciate it.”

A spokesperson for Warren and Wignall said: “We are delighted with the results of The Phoenix Club sign which sold in the auction for £3,000.

“Although we have several different types of auctions, this is the first time we have sold Peter Kay memorabilia.

“We deal mainly with antiques, collectables, fine art, silver and coins. We also specialise in all types of jewellery.”
