A police helicopter was sent up to search after three suspects ran from a ‘stolen car’.

On Saturday, July 16 at about 8.15pm, police were told that a Nissan Micra had been stolen and shortly after they received a further report that a Micra was being driven in an antisocial manner in Brierfield.

Officers flooded the area, found the car and used a stinger to deflate the tyres on Cuckstool Lane.

The three occupants ran from the vehicle on Wheatley Lane Road and the police helicopter arrived to help in the search.

Police dog Viper also arrived on the scene within seconds and they saw two of the suspects running from the gardens on Laund Gate.

After a short chase PD Viper caught one, a second was arrested trying to hide in the children’s playground and the third was caught after a brief chase through gardens.

A spokesperson for the police said: “This was a spontaneous incident and we thank all the villagers who assisted in the search and containment.

“We will not tolerate criminals in Lancashire and can confirm all three suspects were detained and are now being investigated for those offences.”
