A community centre has re-opened after a £250,000 refurbishment.

Clayton Community Centre in Pickup Street, Clayton-le-moors, has re-opened to the public after holding an open day on Friday (July 8) to show off the freshly refurbished facility.

Previously council-owned and bought for just £1, the makeover at the Hyndburn Leisure facility was aided by funding from Sport England (£50k), Lancashire Environment Fund (£30k), and the Community Ownership Fund (over £185k).

The funding has revamped the 1960s building to create a state-of-the-art sports and community hub.

A spokesperson for the centre said: “Thank you to everyone who came to the grand reopening of Clayton Community Centre.

“Over £250k of funding has been invested into the centre, providing a new home for Clayton Amateur Boxing Club and a welcoming space for the local community to enjoy for years to come.”

The community centre is also looking for local volunteers to help form ‘Friends of Clayton Community Centre’ to keep the centre running as well as accruing more funding for the facility.

The investment is part of Hyndburn's Leisure Transformation Scheme, which will see over £13.98 million injected into improving leisure facilities across the whole borough.
