Police have issued more than 50 tickets to people in one evening after drivers were not wearing seatbelts, did not have insurance or had the incorrect number plate.

Officers in Pendle spent Friday evening monitoring drivers on the roads in Brierfield, Nelson and Colne.

Over the course of the evening, officers issued 57 tickets and one summons for a variety of offences.

The offences were:

  • Failure to wear a seat belt, 28 tickets were issued.
  • Using a mobile phone whilst driving, 12 tickets were issued.
  • Driving with no insurance, one ticket issued.
  • Driving without due care and attention, one summons was issued.
  • Incorrect number plate, nine tickets issued.
  • Speeding vehicles, six tickets issued.
  • Going through a red light, one ticket was issued.
  • Two vehicles were taken off the road
  • One vehicle was dealt with for having illegally tinted windows.

A spokesperson for the police said: “This is really disappointing as our road community do not seem to be learning or listening.

“It is so simple wear your seat belt, slow down, use a hands-free kit and have the correct number plate type fitted to your vehicle.

“We will continue to target these areas and we will continue to prosecute those who fail to comply.

“We are concerned for the safety of our community and if these simple tips were followed we all stand a better chance of being safe.

“Lancashire Police are committed to making our roads a safe place to be and to reducing road traffic incidents.”
