A town centre road in Blackburn remains closed as a utility company fixes a burst water pipe which left hundreds of homes without water last week.

Traffic heading down Darwen Street is being diverted on to Jubilee Street and then past the Youth Zone on to George Street.

Businesses in Darwen Street such as the new Kings Castle Restaurant remain open but motorists are asked to park elsewhere.

United Utilities had been working over the weekend and through the week to restore water following the burst pipe in Darwen Street next to the Iceberg Supplements store on Friday, July 1.

It led to residents across the borough saying they had no water or a lack of water pressure in their homes.

Over the weekend United Utilities said water had been restored to homes but they would continue to conduct work at the site.

Lancashire Telegraph:

The area around the burst pipe remains cordoned off with new pictures showing the extensive work still required.

In a message to residents on July 5, United Utilities said: “Thank you for your ongoing patience, whilst our team continue to work to complete the repairs in your area.

"All customer's taps should be flowing, however you may still see us out and about in the area over the coming weeks.

“The repair is extremely complex, and it's going to take some time for us to plan in and safely finish repairing the burst water main on Darwen Street.

"As soon as we are ready to begin the repairs again we will let you know.

"We're sorry if this causes any disruption but we will try and keep this to a minimum.”
