Firefighters came to the rescue after a very big dog bizarrely got stuck on the roof of a property in Thornton Cleveleys yesterday.

Someone should’ve gone to Specsavers as it was reported that the French Bullmastiff on the roof at Wyre was a "large pigeon", police said after being called to assist fire crews in rescuing the stranded pooch.

The rescue team were called to the scene in West Drive, Thornton Cleveleys, yesterday at 8.44pm.

It took around 20 minutes to help the very good boy down.

It’s unclear how he got up there in the first place, but by the look on his face, the adorable dog seemed to be having a great time.

The dog was successfully reunited with the owner after being brought down from the roof onto terra firma.

Lancashire Roads Police said: "Report of a large pigeon on the roof at Wyre this evening, turned out to be a very big dog!

"Thankfully, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service did an amazing job at rescuing the dog. Reunited with owner."

The fire service added: "At 8.44pm on July 7, one fire engine from Fleetwood along with the aerial ladder platform from Blackpool attended an incident in West Drive, Thornton Cleveleys.

"The incident involved a dog stuck on a domestic property roof.

"Firefighters rescued the dog using the aerial ladder platform and were in attendance for approximately twenty minutes."
