A group of men set a car on fire and then trailed petrol up to a house before lighting the fuel, intending for the flames to spread to the building.

Police are now appealing for information and dashcam or CCTV footage following the incident, which happened in Fleetwood.

At around 9.30pm on Tuesday June 28 a group of around eight men approached the house, on Kentmere Close, and used petrol to set the car on fire.

They also poured petrol from the car up to the address, but fortunately this failed to light.

The offenders, all wearing dark clothes and balaclavas, then ran from the scene.

Police would now like to hear from anybody who saw the incident, or who has CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage showing the offenders approaching or leaving the address.

Detectives are particularly keen to see footage which could help them piece together which way the offenders went when they left the area.

DI Jill Vescovi, of Fleetwood Police, said: “A group of offenders have approached an address and poured petrol onto a car, before continuing to make a trail of petrol up to the house.

“Fortunately the fire did not spread further than the car and driveway, but this is pure luck and this incident could have been so much worse.

“We would now like to hear from anybody who saw what happened, or who saw the group of men making off from the scene.

"We would also like to see any CCTV, dashcam, doorbell or mobile phone footage which could help us piece together what happened.

"Whatever you know, please get in touch.

“We appreciate that this incident may have caused concern in the community, but at this point we believe the offenders and victim are known to each other and that there is no wider threat.

"However we will have extra patrols in the area and anybody with concerns is welcome to speak to an officer.”

Anybody with information should call 101, quoting log 1573 of June 28.
