Police earlier warned motorists to find an alternate route after a vehicle fire on the A56 southbound near Rising Bridge.

The incident initially closed lanes one and two and was causing "long delays" for road users.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Please be aware of long delays on the A56 southbound due to a closure from Rising Bridge following a vehicle fire.

"Lane 2 has now been reopened, however lane 1 is still closed.

"Please find an alternative route where possible. Many thanks."

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 14:19 on the 2nd July 2022, two fire engines from Haslignden and Rawtenstall attended an incident on A56 Haslingden, Accrington.

"The incident involved one vehicle which was well alight when crews arrived.

"Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"Crews were in attendance for approximately thirty minutes."

Police have confirmed that there were no injuries.

The road has now been completely reopened.
