A popular chip shop in Blackburn has been a well-loved place for customers to spend quality time with family for decades.

The Chippery in Corporation Street had been serving classic chippy meals for around 20 years before introducing a new and exciting range of dishes including fajitas and desserts hoping to attract new customers in 2017.

Servet Tasdemir, of The Chippery, who is known as Savo to his friends, shared his love for working within the local town as he regularly sees the same friendly faces from around Blackburn.

He said: “It’s nice to get to know the different people that come here. We really get on with the customers so it’s a good environment to work in and you can tell people love the food.”

The chip shop took a hit during Covid, and they lost a large chunk of their regular customers.

The owner added: “We used to get a lot of pensioners in but because of the pandemic they’re nervous returning to the shop.

“It’s difficult for the business because a lot of people are short of money because of prices going up everywhere and it’s sad because a lot of people can’t afford to visit, not just here but other places too.

“That’s why it’s important to support local businesses if you can, to support the workers.”

Two customers Sammy, 33, and her mum Christina, 56, have been able to return after lockdown and look forward to visiting every Wednesday for their weekly mother-daughter day.

Mental Health Nursing student Sammy has a usual order of fish, chips, peas and gravy with a cup of tea and her mum, who’s been coming to the shop since it opened 20 years ago, enjoys a fish, chips, peas and gravy every time.

Sammy said: “It’s the best chippy in the area, definitely. We love the food here and wouldn’t go anywhere else to be honest."

Whilst the management changed over in 2017, “the food hasn’t at all," Sammy added.

"It’s just as good as it’s always been.

“The staff are really lovely so it’s a welcoming environment and it’s routine for us now, we’ll be back next Wednesday for the same order.”
