A major road closure is set to cause ‘chaos’ for several more weeks in Blackburn.

Aqueduct Street, leading to Alan Shearer Way, is closed in both directions due to utility and structural works at the bridge.

Work on the area is set to finish on July 21 according to the One.Network Road Works Map.

Drivers heading to Darwen and Ewood Park are being asked to manoeuvre through a single lane bridge at the top of Hollin Bridge Street along the diversion route in place, which is causing long queues.

At busy periods queues of traffic are forming along Hollin Bridge Street which is normally used a shortcut by drivers heading to Ewood.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Those heading in the opposite direction can expect to be delayed as they turn off Bolton Road at the petrol forecourt on Hollins Bridge Street.

Instead, they may drive along Bolton Road choose to head on to Lower Hollin Bank Street.

But they will be delayed again due to temporary traffic lights holding vehicles up in both directions. This is due to finish today (July 1).

One driver who uses the route daily said: "There isn't much you can do when you go along here.

"You either go up the single-file bridge or head on to the Lower Hollin Bank Street.

"It depends if you get lucky. Sometimes there are only a few cars and other times it can be total chaos.

"Either way then turning right can become a mission.

"Or you could try Livesey Branch Road."

There is still access to the Blackburn Empire Theatre on Aqueduct Street from Alan Shearer Way.
