A Blackburn school has won a national education award in recognition of the quality of its digital teaching and learning provision.

Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School took home the ICT Facility Award at the Education Business Awards 2022 at a ceremony in London, after the school’s journey to develop a best-in-class digital education programme.

The ICT Facility Award itself was awarded to the school that ‘demonstrated innovation in its approach to teaching and deploying Information and Communication technologies that further the learning experience of its pupils.’

TIBHS began its journey to becoming a Microsoft Showcase School in 2019, when it looked to Microsoft to discover new ways of using technology to aid pupils’ progress.

The school was able to swiftly introduce plans to deliver more mobile and flexible teaching practices to guarantee pupils could receive their full teaching timetable digitally at home.

One of the policies introduced, which was heavily praised by the judges of the awards, was that all pupils were provided with microphones and cameras to aid engagement while being taught at home during the pandemic.

Principal Majid Ditta said: “Following our awarding of Microsoft Showcase status last year, this is another very important step in showcasing how EdTech and digital technology can transform the way our pupils learn.

“To get this recognition on a national stage fills me with immense pride, so I would like to thank those who started us on this journey and for always seeking the best for our pupils.”
