A selfless eight-year-old girl donated her hair and has raised over a thousand pounds for the Little Princess Trust.

The brave girl Megan, donated seven inches of her hair after having it cut by her auntie, who owns Amy Louise Hair and Beauty salon in Accrington, who also encouraged donations.

Megan’s hair donation, which currently stands at £1,056.10, will provide a child who has lost their hair to cancer or another condition a free, real hair wig to help boost their confidence and identity.

Megan’s mother, Rhian shared how proud she is of her kind hearted daughter.

She said:"Megan was inspired by Amy who had donated her own hair and she really felt she wanted to do something to help others too.

"She set an ambitious target of £550 as that’s how much it costs the Little Princess Trust to make a wig from the donated hair.

"Amy did a wonderful job with her new shorter style and Megan definitely enjoyed getting the full salon treatment!"

It costs £550 to create a wig so by raising almost double that amount, Megan has gone above and beyond to help a child as well as funding the charity’s research to end childhood cancer forever.

Her auntie and Accrington hairdresser, Amy, said: “One of my clients is a nurse on Manchester children’s ward and through her I have heard of the amazing survivors who are so grateful to receive a wig through this charity.”

Two years ago, Amy Louise donated twelve inches of her own hair and her generosity inspired Megan as she decided to follow in her footsteps and grow her own hair out and do the same for another child.

The Little Princess Trust is Amy Louise Hair’s charity of choice and every three months Amy provides a donation to the charity helping young children across the country feel positive and confident about themselves as well as supporting the development of less aggressive and less toxic cancer treatments.

Megan's mum, Rhian added: "We have been completely overwhelmed by the total she achieved but more than that we are just so proud of what a thoughtful girl we have!"
