Local businesses and community groups in Haslingden are being encouraged to contact Rossendale Council’s economic development team to apply for grant funding to help connect people and communities to the town’s local heritage.

As part of The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Rossendale Council’s Deardengate Big Lamp project – Shining Light on Haslingden’s Heritage, micro-grants are being offered from £50 up to £3,000.

The grants are aimed at those who are either located within the Haslingden Conservation Area or deliver their project within the Conservation Area.

Cllr Samara Barnes said: “The micro grants will benefit the community allowing them to have their say and spend the grants where they think the funds are most needed.”

Grants are available to cover a wide range of new and existing projects and activities.

The grants are designed to improve heritage projects within Haslingden which will either enhance the look and feel of the town centre, encourage visitors to Haslingden, boost the economy, reduce unemployment and make the local area a better place to live, work and visit.

It is hoped the grants will encourage a wider range of local people to get involved in the heritage of their town, and improve community spirit and social isolation following the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Cllr Marilyn Proctor said: “The micro grants are a fantastic opportunity for community groups to build on the amazing events that they are already providing within Haslingden.”

Cllr Adrian Lythgoe added: “This is a great opportunity for residents to get involved and learn more about their local heritage.”
