People are being encouraged to take part in a project which highlights important heritage buildings and structures.

The Lancashire Local List wants residents, local communities and groups to go out this summer to identify their local heritage and to nominate the buildings and sites, they cherish.

There are many heritage assets across the UK, which are not on national designated lists but remain important at a local level because they contribute to the character of an area, have local historic associations, are local landmarks or are important to the local community.

Nominations can include a range of different heritage assets, for example: an interesting local building, a cherished local memorial, village hall, former mill building or simply an interesting historic feature like a village pump or a local park.

Heritage assets nominated through the project will be looked at under selection criteria developed from Historic England guidance.

The project is being co-ordinated by Growth Lancashire on behalf of the Lancashire Authorities.

Tim Webber, the chair of Growth Lancashire Ltd, said: “This is a really exciting project and we are thrilled to be involved in helping to recognise and record the amazing buildings that Lancashire has to offer.

"The opportunity still exists this summer for residents across the County to participate in putting buildings forward for selection and I would encourage everyone to do so.”

Ian Bond, head of specialist services at Growth Lancashire Ltd, added: “The purpose of the project is to find out what local heritage Lancashire has to offer and what buildings, monuments and parks residents and local communities think are important to them.

“As part of project we will can offer help and training to people and local community groups and organisations to assist them in identifying local heritage.

"We have a fantastic new website where people can view the information collected so far in the project. To become involved all you have to do is register on the Web site.”
