Rivington Music Festival is back for the first time since the pandemic, and it’s set to be the best one yet.

The festival takes place on July 16 and 17 between 12pm and 10pm at Rivington Terraced Gardens and includes big name headliners Republica and Toploader on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Individual day tickets cost £15 for adults and £7 for children, and weekend tickets cost £27 for adults and £12 for children.

The first iteration of the festival came in 2018, which was set up as a fundraiser and thank you event for the those involved with tackling the Winter Hill fires earlier that year.

Around 2,000 people came to support that event which was set up in just three weeks and raised around £21,000.

This time around - the third version of the event - it has been three years in the planning.

Heritage programmes manager Andrew Suter is thankful to the headliners for remaining on board throughout that time and is keen to see people enjoy the “best weekend” of their calendar.

“It’s the best weekend of the year,” he said.

“It’s amazing to see everyone enjoying themselves in the gardens.

“We’ve had two years of Covid, and we haven’t been able to fund raise in the way we’ve wanted to. The funds raised will go towards to upkeep of the gardens.

“We planned to do it last year then Boris Johnson announced the extension of the lockdown, which essentially killed it.

“So, we’ve been planning it for three years.

"We started planning this one since 2019, and we’ve had Toploader and Republica on board since then. We’ve been very lucky that they’ve stayed committed.”

Along with the music, punters can enjoy a host of bars, food stalls and other attractions.

Mr Suter added: “It will be a fantastic occasion. There are also lots of other local bands, vendors selling great food including vegan options, and a VIP bar for the first time.”
