A TEENAGER was taken to hospital with head injuries after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths in a town centre.

Police and paramedics were called to Darwen on Tuesday afternoon following reports that a teenage boy had been assaulted by several other teenagers.

The victim was taken to hospital with head and facial injuries where he was assessed and has since been discharged.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

News of the assault has sparked concerns among those living in the town, with people expressing worries over a rise of anti-social behaviour on the streets.

The North West Air Ambulance was also seen in the town centre yesterday evening responding to the incident.

One person said: “You expect your kids to be safe at this time of day, hope the lad is OK.”

Another person commented: “Sometimes it just doesn’t feel safe in Darwen anymore.”

While another added: “Middle of town centre broad daylight and nobody stopped this happening. Disgusting.”

The air ambulance was seen landing close to the scene of the incident but was not used to take the teenager to hospital.

People also report seeing police cars in the area at the time of the alleged attack.
