THE team at a Blackburn opticians raised their glasses to welcome new hearing care director, Georgina Wharmby and bid farewell to store director, Peter McMullen who has spent more than 16 years heading up the audiology department.

An audiologist with nearly three decades under his belt, Peter joined Specsavers in 2006 when the store was located on King William Street and was instrumental in setting up the first audiology centre in East Lancashire, offering services to customers from as far north as Skipton and Winsford in the south.

Peter helped drive the business forward, so much so that in 2011 increased demand meant that the team had outgrown their premises, resulting in the move to the current, larger premises in Lord Street Mall.

Georgina, a seasoned audiologist with more than 11 years-experience working in the sector, will join the 70 strong Specsavers team and will continue to provide the unique blend of customer care and professional expertise. As well specialising in wax removal, Georgina is passionate about nurturing the next generation of audiologists, which will see her supervising trainees, qualified hearing care assistants and foundation degree students.

“Peter has certainly left a legacy here and will be very much missed,” comments fellow store director, Ahmed Deshmukh. “His calm, caring nature not only helped build a dedicated and committed team, but a wonderful loyal customer following too.

Retail director, Amanda Jeewooth adds, “It’s a bittersweet time, the end of an era and the start of an exciting new partnership with Georgina. We’re confident that her professional, caring and gentle approach will help us continue to provide the high-level of customer service our business is built on.”
