Police are appealing for information following reports of a ‘disturbance’ in a Burnley Park.

Police on Monday (June 13) said they received reports of disorder and an altercation that occurred on Thompson Park in Burnley during the early evening of Thursday, June 2.

It is believed that multiple people were in the proximity of the incident and likely saw the disturbance in which injuries were sustained.

A parent of one of the people who was believed to be a victim has today spoken out and said her teenage son and his friend, also a secondary school pupil, were "victims".

It is believed a parent of a school pupil was also assaulted with a metal bar and two other children were kicked.

She said: “This is something that has been brewing for some time.

“Both my son and his friend have been victims of bullying and this eventually led to them being attacked in the park.

"He has bruises and was heavily shook up following the incident.

"The school said it was off their premises and it was nothing to do with them. We don’t feel that is the case and the school should take more responsibility for the actions against those who are related to pupils.

“We feel my son’s safety has been compromised.”

She said both pupils had been off school ever since the incident.

Anyone has any information or footage with regards to the incident is asked to email 5842@lancashire.police.uk quoting log 0373 of June 3.
