Blackburn Rovers star Tyrhys Dolan and the Lord Mayor of Lahore, Colonel Mubashir Javed were among those presenting the honours at a regional football tournament.

The Star Tissue UK Football Championships attracts clubs from across the North West and Yorkshire and this year was played over several weeks at Witton Park's 3G Pitches.

This weekend two finals took place at the venue and attracted teams from across the region.

In the Vets final, Blackburn’s Club 58 were pipped to the trophy by Bradford’s Phoenix Vets 1-0, with a first half goal by Shezad Iqbal settling the final on the day.

Rovers starlet Dolan was joined by councillors Iftikhar Hussain, Parvaiz Akhtar and Shaukat Hussain, who were presenting trophies on behalf of trophy sponsor One Stop Vehicle Solutions.

Dolan presented the awards to both winners and finalists and the player of the tournament. Alongside local councillors he presented the winners trophy to Pheonix captain Ishaq Hussain.

Players and fans from both sides poised with Dolan as he spent time chatting to local footballers at the final held on Sunday.

In the Open Age final which kicked off later on the same day Keighley and Bradford side Route One Rovers beat Prestwich Marauders 4-3.

Presenting the main trophy on the day was the Lord Mayor of Lahore Col Mubashir Javed and Mazar Choudrhy, who were visiting Blackburn over the weekend.

They had earlier been invited to tour the Star Tissue UK site as guests of the Ditta family who run the company.

Lahore is the capital of the Punjab province of Pakistan and described as one of the most cosmopolitan cities in South Asia, renowned for its architecture and history.

Commenting on his visit he said: “It was wonderful visiting Blackburn and a huge thank you for the warm welcome.

“It was excellent to see the pride and passion the teams and their fans had for the game of football. Very much like people have for cricket in my home city!

“It was also good to see the numbers of young people from all backgrounds getting involved in sport and how level of talent has been developed within these clubs.”
