Burger giant Five Guys will open its first Lancashire restaurant in Preston after a planning application has been approved.

Preston City Council has given consent for the American burger company to take over the Frankie and Benny’s site at Deepdale Retail Park, Blackpool Road, as long as certain conditions are met.

The report, which was submitted earlier this year, lists proposed changes the company wish to make including aesthetic alterations.

The report said: “The proposal seeks the installation of a new door located on the southwestern elevation.

"The new door will allow for a more efficient and streamlined access point for servicing the restaurant.

“The installation of the signage will stand to promote Five Guys’ presence whilst ensuring a high quality and uncluttered appearance.

“Further, the introduction of Five Guys’ synonymous branding on the unit and in the seating, area will enhance the vibrancy of the leisure park, enticing visitors to the park and restaurant.

"The signs, which are illuminated, include subtle illumination and is consistent with signage at surrounding buildings and illumination previously approved at this site.”

The council has approved plans for these building alterations as long as the illuminated sign follows regulations.

The report stated: “No part of the source of the illumination shall at any time be directly visible to users of adjacent adopted highway.

“Static illumination is provided and the sign shall not feature intermittent or flashing lights.

“The level of illuminance shall not exceed the maximum level found within the Institution of Lighting Engineers (ILE) document PLG 5 Brightness of illuminated advertisements or its equivalent in any replacement guide and that moving features are not provided.”

This is to ensure the development is implemented in accordance with the approved plans and to avoid ambiguity and is in the interests of traffic and highway safety.

Rumours of a Five Guys opening in Preston started in February, when the fast food chain started advertising job opportunities on its website that appear to be linked to a new store in Preston.

Five Guys has more than 1,000 venues worldwide, with more than 100 in the UK.

It has 11 venues in the North West but none currently in Lancashire; six are in Manchester, two are in Liverpool, two are in Cheshire and one is in Ashton-under-Lyne.
