Stand up comedian, Ed Byrne, enjoyed a pint at an East Lancashire brewery ahead of one of his gigs.

Ed, who has appeared on a variety of TV panel shows such as Mock the Week, took a break at Number 39 Hopstar Brewery Tap, Bridge Street, Darwen.

Here, Ed enjoyed a pint of Lancashire Gold for his ‘#preshowpint’ picture series which he documents on social media ahead of his show on Thursday, June 9,

This was before he brought his stand-up tour ‘If I’m Honest’ to Darwen Library Theatre.

The picture is captioned: “Tonight’s #preshowpint is an @OfficialHopstar ‘Lancashire Gold’ in the Hopstar Tap Number 39, Darwen, Blackburn.”

Commenting on the picture, one person said: “That looks like a genuine smile and that in turn made me smile.

“Tonight's show was bloody brilliant, thanks Ed,” said another.

One person also pointed out Ed’s slight geographical blunder after suggesting that Darwen is in Blackburn.

Commenting on the post, one person said: “Darwen's in Blackburn now is it? Controversial.”

The Hopstar Number 39 Brewery was founded by Barry Tyson as a hobby to produce some great local beers using good ingredients.

Their Hopstar Real Ales have won over 20 awards and has been voted and was voted CAMRA Cider Pub of the Year for several years.

The bar also sells draught Real Ciders and Perrys from independent cider makers

According to the Hopstar Brewery website, Lancashire Gold is one of their best sellers.

It is described as : “A light beer with a good combination of malt and hops. Maris Otter and crystal malts give a balanced base to this golden bitter.

“The Cascade hop gives bitterness to this great tasting session bitter with a hint of fruity aroma coming through afterwards.”
