A JET car wash will be built at a Tesco as long as it does not pollute the River Irwell.

Rossendale Borough Council has approved the application made by the Rawtenstall supermarket in Bocholt Way to install a jet wash by the existing recycling bay and close to the petrol station.

The plans will see the removal of 12 parking spaces to make space for the jet washer with waterproof screens on either side.

New bollards and low-level LED lighting will also be installed.

The council has agreed on the installation of the car wash but says the supermarket must ensure the dirty and surface water is properly disposed of to ensure the development does not pose a risk of pollution to the River Irwell.

It must also only be available between 7am and 10pm to avoid disruption to neighbours.

No objections were lodged by the public whilst the plans were being submitted and considered.

Building work can only begin once the supermarket has shown how they will dispose of the waste water.
