Three men have been arrested on suspicion of rape after a woman was sexually assaulted in a hotel room.

Police were called to the Best Western Carlton Hotel on the Promenade on Sunday morning after receiving reports that a woman in her 40s had been sexually assaulted in the hotel.

Two men in their 20s and one in his 30s were arrested in connection with the incident but have since been released under investigation.

It is believed the woman is now being supported by specialist officers. 

A spokesperson for the police said: "We were contacted on Sunday morning (June 5) to respond to a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted at the hotel and enquiries are ongoing.

"The victim, a woman in her 40s, is being supported by officers.

"Three men – one aged in their 30s and two in their 20s -  have been arrested in connection with the investigation and have been released under investigation while our enquiries continue."
