AN Accrington Stanley fan and his wife displayed his club's banner with pride as he led a fleet of Morris Minors down the Mall for the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.

Janet and Martin Bury, from Hapton, were at the head of the procession in their Lilac Morris Minor Million, proudly showing an Accrington Stanley banner in the back window.

The pair, who are part of the Morris Minor Owners Club, said they were honoured to be asked to be front and centre leading the Pagent down the Mall to drive past a huge number of onlookers, guests and the royal family.

Janet said: “It was just amazing to be part of it. I think we were asked to be at the front because the car is lilac so it is fitting with the jubilee colour.

“Accrington Stanley get forgotten about a bit but by having the banner in the back, people remembered us from the 'Accrington Stanley, who are they?' saying in the old milk advert."

Martin, who is an Accrington Stanley season ticket holder, has owned Morris Minors for 40 years having learnt to drive in one.

He added: “We’ve had to keep it a secret since February due to security reasons.

“My Minor Million is a special purple colour representing the 350 special edition cars made to celebrate the million car sales achieved.

“We got lots of people saying and shouting out how much they loved the colour.

“We had a fabulous day and would like to thank the organisers and volunteers for all their hard work making the day and pageant such a huge success.”

The pair were noticed by the club’s chaplain Debra Phillips and her family who were in London cheering on the Pageant.
