A GROUP of cyclists have raised more than £29,000 by cycling across the Pennines from Lancashire to Yorkshire.
The group were raising funds to tackle poverty, disease and hunger in East Africa as part of the Angel Welfare Trust.
The 55 mile Pedal4Africa ride was organised by Nas Patel, Hussain Musa, Harun Vali and Abdula Dadibhai.
It saw fundraisers head out from Preston to Dewsbury along a 55 mile route, with the hardiest of the cyclists also doing the return leg.
The riders who were made up of volunteers from across Lancashire who have already raised £29,456 for the trust.
Salim Patel (above) was joined by his son Adil Patel alongside a further 18 riders from Preston and 30 from Dewsbury.
A spokesperson for the riders said: “The whole ride took five hours and the whole day to complete with riders reaching their destination at 5pm.
“We would like to thank everyone for their efforts and helping to raise thousands for charity.
“The Trust has been working for 20 years in Western Kenya and have recently taken the decision to broaden their target area to East Africa.
“Maintaining the same project activity portfolio and target population we have started work across Kenya and have extended into Uganda.
“With the support and prayers of our donors and ambassadors and partners in East Africa we can make a difference.”
The team celebrated by cutting a cake on the day
The fundraising is set to continue as volunteers from Team Saddle who are now hoping to follow that challenge up by riding from London to Paris later this month.
