A whole host of events are being planned across the region for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Next Thursday (June 2) and Friday (June 3) will see the nation come together to celebrate the first time any British monarch has reached the historic milestone of 70 years of service.

A snap poll of a dozen councils – of all types and sizes - by the Local Government Association shows they have approved more than 1000 street parties. That could mean more than 16,000 Platinum Jubilee street parties across the country.

Here are some fantastic organised events taking place across the county.

Blackburn Mall

A whole series of free events are taking place from Saturday 28 May running through to Sunday 5 June in Blackburn Town Centre. Budding little royal artists will get the chance to create Queen’s pop art, Queen’s Guard puppets, Jubilee bunting, crowns, cookies and more.

Party at East Lancs

Friday 3 June  - The Royal British Legion is hosting a celebration at the East Lancs Sports Club, off Dukes Brow. Free family event for all. Starts from 12pm.

Concert at Cherry Tree

A 45 strong Blackburn Symphony Orchestra will lead an open air concert on Sunday 5 June with a stirring Last Night at the Proms.  Over 1,000 people are already heading down. Tickets are selling out fast and can be bought in advance. For further information click here

High Tea Celebration

One Voice Blackburn and Blackburn Youth Zone are hosting a High Tea event on Sunday, 5 June at Bangor St Community Centre, Blackburn.

The Celebration is an invitation only event and will be attended by One Voice and Blackburn Youth Zone members alongside special guests.

Saturday 4 June - 12pm-4pm: To celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, Blackburn Youth Zone are hosting a Family Fun Day for everyone in the community.

Big Jubilee Lunch at the farm

Mrs Dowsons farm is hosting a weekend of celebrations from2-5 June 2022. Everyone is invited to the table, a gathering in the courtyard, with carnival stilt walkers, live entertainers, face painting, lawn games - plus a farmer BBQ, cake stalls and all the fun of the farm.

BURNLEY

Brass in the parks

Sunday June 5 from 2pm -4pm, the East Lancs Concert Band will give a free concert on the lawn behind Towneley Hall. Seats provided or bring your own blanket. Dress for the occasion or just come casual. Refreshments on sale, provided by the Friends of Towneley Park, with donations welcomed.

Town centre celebrations

Saturday 4th June – A whole series of events are taking place in Burnley Town Centre from 10am-4pm.  Vintage Swing Thing (pictured) will be performing in Charter Walk.

The Burnley Artisan Market is with a special Jubilee Event. Located just outside Charter Walk on St James Street the celebration will welcome artisan stalls of the very finest food drink  and craft.

HYNDBURN

On Saturday June 4 Accrington Market Hall will host a performance of Alice in Wonderland and a range of activities from 10am.

CHORLEY

Chorley Theatre will host a series of parties and events on Friday 3 June and Saturday 4 June. Free to drop in. Friday 10pm-2pm and Saturday from 6pm.

COLNE

On Thursday 2 June, 9am until 4pm there will be free donkey rides, free face painting, live music, markets, traditional fairground rides plus much much more.

PENDLE

Platinum Last Night Of The Proms Concert

The Hippodrome is hosting a Last Night of the Proms Concert to honour the Queens Platinum Jubilee. Tickets on sale now! All proceeds raised will be donated to charities serving the local community. More details here

Party in Pendle parks

Jubilee themed park sessions will take place in Valley Gardens, Barnoldswick (Monday May 30), Victoria Park, Nelson (Tuesday 31 May) and Alkincoats Park, Colne (Wednesday June 1).

Family fun in the park

A series of family fun days are being held across Clitheroe. These will take place on 30 May (2pm-4pm) Longridge Park; 31 May Gatty Park (10pm-12pm) and Mercer Park (2pm-4pm); 1 June Clitheroe Castle (2pm-4pm).

PRESTON

In Preston, from Thursday 2 June, there will be a Civic Jubilee launch event, hosted by the Mayor of Preston on Preston’s Flag Market. This family-friendly event begins at 8pm with a parade by Preston Air Cadets and Preston Sea Cadets.  The evening will end with the lighting of the Official Platinum Jubilee Beacon at 21.45pm, followed by the National Anthem.

On Saturday 4 June, the annual Preston City Mela - the City’s flagship South Asian community event of the year - will take place at Avenham Park. From Bollywood to Taichi Fan, Bhangra dancers to steel drummers, and even puppetry, the day is sure to be a lively one.

Sunday 5 June will see Avenham, Park host The Big Lunch, from 11am until 4pm. Adapting an idea from the Eden Project, The Big Lunch aims to get as many people as possible to have lunch with their local community. There will also be crafts and a range of food stalls featuring global food selections, as well as a gin and beer cart.

MANCHESTER

If you are heading out to Manchester, here are the spots to visit.

Piccadilly Gardens will be hosting a party fit for royalty throughout the Jubilee weekend, from 11am till 7pm. The area will be completely transformed into a bustling market and, will be the home to a large program of live music and dance performances throughout the extended weekend. 

Manchester city centre shops and restaurants will be putting on a show fit for a Queen with the return of the city’s prestigious annual flower festival, The Manchester Flower Show.  

Sackville Gardens will be hosting an all-weekend dance party. Perfect for those who want to jig their way through the bank holiday.  The ‘Fit for a Queen Weekend’ in Sackville Gardens, on Whitworth Street, will be paying homage to Her Majesty by getting everyone up and rocking along to iconic songs from the past 70 years. 

Central Library will be open on Sunday 5 June between 12 and 4pm for families to conclude the Jubilee weekend with a day full of vintage films, crafts and face painting.  All activities are free, and pre-booking is not required.
