National Fish and Chip Day returns tomorrow and what better way to celebrate than by supporting your local chippy?

But for one fish and chip shop in East Lancashire, the national appreciation day is more than just a chance to celebrate the nation's best loved dish, it's a chance to get creative and entertain loyal customers too.

Westend Fish and Chips on Blackburn Road in Oswaldtwistle was taken over by the Regan-Hitchen family, consisting of owner and mother Lesley Regan, handyman and father Don Hitchen, their daughter shop manager Deryn and son Thomas, in November 2018.

And since then the family run business has celebrated National Fish and Chip Day every year, with the Queen's Jubilee giving them an extra chance to mark the occasion.

Deryn said: "Each year we celebrate National Fish and Chip Day.

"In previous years we have decorated the shop and done offers, and this year we have decorated the shop for both National Fish and Chip Day and the Queen's Jubilee, which we will remain open for - after all fish and chips is one of the nations favourite."

But not only has the shop been kitted out in red, white and blue, the family have been posting TikTok videos on their Facebook page to gear their customers up for the double celebration.

Deryn added: "The shop will be decorated and hopefully, all going to plan, we will have a 10ft balloon arch outside.

"We've also done some TikTok videos of us dancing in National Fish and Chip Day t-shirts on our Facebook, releasing one a day all week.

"And lastly, we have done a spoof of our 'out of this world chips' where two 'aliens' have taken over the shop to eat fish and chips - this can also be seen on our Facebook."

West End Fish and Chips have recently been named as a finalist in the Hyndburn Business Awards Family Business category and are looking forward to seeing if they've won on the awards night next month.
