Residents have spoken out against ‘ridiculously loud’ noise made by skips being emptied in the early hours of the morning.

The ongoing issue was causing problems for people living on Primula Crescent, Clitheroe, especially those with illnesses - including one resident with a sleeping disorder.

The management of the nearby Primrose petrol forecourt, based off Whalley Road said they the issue had arisen since the new housing development was built and they were ‘diligently investigating any neighbour complaint’.

Ribble Valley Council said they were also investigating the complaints.

A resident said: “It is ridiculously loud. “The skips are being emptied every Wednesday and Thursday at the same time and it is causing a lot of issues for people living here.

“It is something we have raised with the company but nothing seems to have been done at the moment.

“I am sure these can be emptied at other times and do not have to be done at this time. The resident said they had complained to the council but no action had been taken.

“Soon after the waste management company who is coming in to empty the rubbish, they begin to get deliveries.”

Residents moved into this section of Primula Crescent in 2017. The forecourt is managed by the Kay Group.

A spokesperson for the Kay Group said: “We have always been proactive and worked diligently investigating any neighbour complaint, be it direct or through the local authority, which has arisen since the new housing development behind our site that had historically been open fields.

“We are at present fully engaged on current complaints with the Local Authority who recognise our commitment to finding a resolution whilst at the same time appreciating we cannot simply make changes overnight to contracts that have been in place for over 10 years.

“It is disappointing this article comes towards the end of our improvements and coordinated detailed consultations with the local authority who are acting on the complaints”

A Ribble Valley Borough Council spokesman said: “We are aware of concerns about noise nuisance at the Primrose Service Station and are currently investigating the matter.”
