Talented music students are to take centre stage this weekend alongside up and coming local bands from across the region.

Burnley College Sixth Form Centre students will be performing at the 'Over The Hill' concert which takes place at The Grand in Clitheroe.

The musicians, who play in established bands The Social and Until Joy, made it through a selection process to support headline acts 'The Ruby Tuesdays', fresh from signing a record deal, and Blackburn rock band 'Anhedonia'.

The concert, on 28 May, is expected to be a sell-out, with College students and those on degree-level courses at Burnley College University courses also supporting sound engineers, stage managers and front-of-house staff on the night.

Burnley College Music Tutor Karl Eden, said: “We’re really proud of the exceptionally close links we have with The Grand – our students are there every week making use of the amazing facilities to bring their Music and Music Technology studies to life in a professional environment.

“At Burnley College we’re dedicated to ensuring all our students get the very best experiences and have real-life industry experience so this opportunity to play such a significant role in the Over The Hill concert is truly amazing.

“From the musicians who will be playing on stage to those ensuring the event runs smoothly, this will be an invaluable experience to help them take the next step towards their dream of a career in the music or live events industry.”

Clare Webster, Head of Creative Industries at Burnley College, added: “We have the most amazing facilities on our Burnley College Campus for our music students to create, rehearse and perform but there really is no experience like being out on stage in front of a sell-out crowd in one of the best local venues.

“That’s what we’re about at Burnley College – giving each and every student the opportunity to bring their learning to life and gain real-world experience which sets them apart from the crowd when it comes to applying to study at university or achieve their dream career.

“The passion of all our students – whether they’re on stage, helping the event run smoothly or sound engineering – will shine through and make this a night to remember.”
