RAIL passengers travelling through Preston train station have been warned to expect major delays during rush hour following a police incident.

National Rail said lines had reopened through Preston but trains may continue to be delayed by 60 minutes or cancelled.

Those getting connections to East Lancashire routes today can expect delays.

National Rail had earlier said: “The emergency services are dealing with an incident near Preston, meaning all lines are blocked.

"As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. Major disruption is expected until 5.45pm.”

The following routes have been affected:

  • Avanti West Coast between Edinburgh / Glasgow Central / Blackpool North and London Euston
  • Northern between Blackpool North / Windermere / Barrow-in-Furness and Manchester Airport, and between Blackburn and Preston, and between Blackpool North and Liverpool Lime Street / Hazel Grove / York, and also between Blackpool South / Colne / Liverpool Lime Street / Ormskirk and Preston
  • TransPennine Express between Glasgow Central / Edinburgh and Manchester Airport and also between Glasgow Central and Liverpool Lime Street
