A ROAD is to remain closed "for some time" today as emergency services deal with an incident which has seen a motorist rushed to hospital.

Manchester Road in Burnley, between Crown Point Road and Clowbridge Reservoir, is currently closed.

It is believed police and paramedics are dealing with a serious crash, while firefighters had to extract a casualty from the vehicle involved.

They have said the road is likely to be closed for some time and are asking motorists to find an alternative route.

A police spokesperson said: “Please be aware there is a road closure on Manchester Road, Burnley between Crown Point Road and Clowbridge Reservoir due to a road traffic collision.

"The road is likely to be closed for some time, please avoid this area.”

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "At 6.04am on May 23, two fire engines from Burnley attended a road traffic collision on Manchester Road, Burnley.

"The incident involved one vehicle. Firefighters extracted one casualty from the vehicle using Milwaukee and Holmatro tools, they also worked to make the scene safe.

"One casualty was assessed at the scene and conveyed to hospital via North West Ambulance Service. Crews were in attendance for approximately two hours."
