The Archbishop of York will be visiting Lancashire for three days this month.

During his time in the county from May 27 until May 29, Archbishop Stephen Cottrell will see a huge range of work taking place across The Church of England in Lancashire, including Blackburn Diocese and will participate in and lead several key events.

During his visit, he will host an open-air service at Whalley Abbey on the evening of May 27 from 7pm.

This will include the blessing of the new Centre for Christian Discipleship and Prayer which has been established over the past 18 months at the ancient site.

He will also meet with civic and faith leaders in Burnley across the afternoon of May 27 after a visit to Lancaster University in the morning.

During his tour of the county, he will conduct mission work with local churches in and around communities on the Fylde Coast on Saturday before hosting an event in the evening at the Globe Arena at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Finally, he will lead two services at Blackburn Cathedral on Sunday morning which will include guests from three East Lancashire parishes, each of which is celebrating 900 years of service to their communities.
