A “suspected crash” has caused delays to build up along a busy East Lancashire road this evening.

Police and a recovery vehicle were called to Grane Road, which links Blackburn with Haslingden on Friday evening to deal with an as yet unidentified incident.

According to eyewitnesses, officers and a recovery vehicle were still on the scene just before 6pm.

A passing motorist said: “I’ve been on Grane Road and there’s been a lot of traffic building up.

“I could see at least two police cars and a recovery vehicle there.

“It looks to be a crash but I can’t say for certain.”

As yet police and the emergency services have not provided further details on the nature of the incident.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews at Blackburn fire station did not have any further details.

Grane Road serves as one of the most important routes in and out of Blackburn for commuters across East Lancashire.

It has seen a number of road accidents over recent months, including an incident just before last Christmas when two people were rushed to hospital after a crash.

As such, road users have been warned to allow extra times for their journeys and to expect delays.
